Come Hungry to this California Food Festival
Story by Aja Goare
Central Coast residents looking for an exciting way to try new, California farmed foods can visit the Taste of Ventura on Sunday, Sept. 11, when over 60 vendors will share their food and drink. San Luis Obispo County’s neighbor to the south offers visitors a fun opportunity to sample delectable foods while supporting the Totally Local VC Agricultural Education Foundation.
The annual event convenes on the lawn of the Ventura County Credit Union’s corporate office and features small bites, sips, local music and art. The event gives guests an opportunity to meet and talk with chefs, farmers and purveyors as they taste and learn about the local bounty. As one of the major agricultural producers in the world, Ventura County is home to countless farmers, chefs, vintners, brewers and restauranteurs.
Among the many unique food and beverage related activities available to guests is the Farm to Glass Mixology Throwdown, where competing bartenders will craft drinks from locally grown ingredients. Attendees will sip sample sizes of these fresh cocktails and vote for their favorite. The winning cocktail will be crowned Ventura Counties signature cocktail and be featured at local restaurants throughout Ventura County.
Educational workshops, mixology lessons and even a build your custom shortcake bar are features of the event. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and last through 5 p.m. Tickets starts at $75 when purchased in advance and include all samplings.
Over the past decade, Totally Local VC has worked as an advisor for agriculture and culinary arts programs at high school and college levels. Together with area chefs and farmers, the nonprofit has laid the foundation to empower students in taking the next step in their journeys to achieve their educational and professional goals.
