Sommelier Approved Summer Pairing: Tinned Fish and Rosé

Story by Scott Lewis

It’s that time of year again: picnics, light refreshing meals, al fresco dining and of course, rosé. A lot of rosé.

As we approach Independence Day – the most popular summertime gathering date in America – take on fun pairings of this season’s favorite sip to share with friends. Rosé wine’s crisp and floral flavors complement the subtleties of savory tinned fish, providing an effortless duo for leisurely summer days. Here is a list of go-to pairings to enjoy this fourth of July, and throughout the summer.

Seven Oxen Estate Wines 2021 Rosé and Tiny Fish Co. Chorizo Spiced Mussels

A light bodied rosé wine with notes of orange blossom, rainbow sherbet, candied green apple, and strawberry on the nose provides crisp acidity and fruity notes that enhance the flavors of these mussels. Packed with bold spices and a touch of smoke, the shellfish benefit from the refreshing, crispy and bright characteristics of this rosé.

Fleurs de Prairie Rosé and Siesta Co. Sardines in Organic Olive Oil

Delicate and floral, Fleurs de Prairie Rosé is filled with aromas of strawberry and rose petal, offering a refreshing complement to Siesta Co.’s flaky and tangy sardines.

Josh Cellars Rosé and Siesta Co. White Tuna in Organic Olive Oil

The versatile tinned fish, a Mediterranean classic, makes a great pair to the equally adaptable rosé, a wine filled with delicious flavors of stone fruits.

Josh Cellars Prosecco Rosé and Fishwife Smoked Atlantic Salmon

The bright bubbles in Josh Cellars’ Prosecco Rosé make for an effervescent sip alongside Fishwife’s rich salmon – smoked over a mix of beech, maple and birchwood. An easy pairing for, say, an al fresco brunch.
